Book Shelf

Here is what I'm currently reading...

The World Without Us - Alan Weisman

This book has been a great thought provoking read. It's central premise is all human beings just disappear. The author goes through the various details of decay and demise for all of our treasured homes, cities, and monuments.

Life on Land - Emilie Conrad

Ever since I read Emilie Conrad's essay in Bone, Breath, and Gesture. I've been fascinated by the practice of Continuum. So I'm very curious to see if I encounter more of her poetic embodiment through this autobiography. So far so good.

Mind in Life - Evan Thompson

This book is a sequal to The Embodied Mind. I'm really enjoying the way Evan Thompson is bringing together biology and phenomenology. It has been inspiring me to work on a book that makes a solid eight zone case for the interiors of organisms.

Designing and Conducting Mixed Methods Research             - John Creswell & Vicki Plano Clark

I've used Creswell's books in research courses I teach for years. So I was very excited when I saw that this book had just come out (this August). I'm actually using it in several of my Integral Research courses this fall. This book is basically the first textbook on mixed methods research and as a result is invaluable resource for this important emerging field.

Sanskrit of the Body - W. B. Keckler

As a big fan of Mary Oliver I couldn't resist picking up this slim volume when I saw she had picked it for the National Poetry Prize. Boy am I glad I did - its haunting, fleshy, earth-based explorations are quite delightful. Rarely have I come across such "grab me by the soul" poetry. In fact, not since discovering M. S. Merwin have I been moved so fully.
